I’m Blair Hurley and I received my A.B. from Princeton University in Creative Writing and my M.F.A. from NYU. My debut novel, The Devoted, was published August 21st from W.W. Norton & Company. I have stories published or forthcoming in The Georgia Review, West Branch, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Descant, and elsewhere. I’m the winner of a Pushcart Prize and the recipient of residencies and fellowships from Hawthornden Castle, Ragdale, and the Vermont Studio Center.
I’ve been teaching creative writing and working with writers on their manuscripts for a number of years. I’ve taught creative writing at the University of Chicago, Loyola University, Endicott College, Lesley University, and at McMaster University. I teach novel-writing classes at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies.
I’m dedicated to helping fellow writers bring out the full potential of their work. I know what it’s like to struggle and sweat over a manuscript to bring it to fruition. And I know how the patient, steady work of revision can re-imagine a piece. Many of my stories that have found publication success started in very different forms; it takes both patience, vision, and often a little help from another pair of eyes to perfect a piece.
