I’m Blair Hurley and I received my B.A. from Princeton University in Creative Writing and my M.F.A. from NYU. I have stories published or forthcoming in West Branch, Washington Square, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Descant, Fugue, J Journal, The Red Rock Review, Green Hills Literary Lantern, The Best Young Writers and Artists in America, and elsewhere. The recipient of residencies from Ragdale and the Vermont Studio Center and an “Emerging Writers” Fellowship from the Writer’s Room of Boston, I’m currently at work on a novel.
I’ve been teaching creative writing and working with writers on their manuscripts for a number of years. I’ve taught creative writing at the University of Chicago, Loyola University, Endicott College, Lesley University, and at Storystudio Chicago. I’ve also taught literature and rhetoric at Boston University, Babson College, and other universities in Boston and Chicago.
I’m dedicated to helping fellow writers bring out the full potential of their work. I know what it’s like to struggle and sweat over a manuscript to bring it to fruition. And I know how the patient, steady work of revision can re-imagine a piece. Many of my stories that have found publication success started in very different forms; it takes both patience, vision, and often a little help from another pair of eyes to perfect a piece.
